Upper Endoscopy
Upper endoscopy is an endoscopic procedure which allows for video evaluation of the esophagus, stomach and the first part of the small bowel. In order to prepare for this procedure, the patient must limit solid foods for at least 8 hours, and stop drinking clear liquids 4 hours before the procedure. During Upper Endoscopy, the doctor may perform biopsy, dilation, cautery, clip placement, or other maneuvers through the scope which may be required by the condition or findings.
Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is video evaluation of the colon (large bowel). Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in both males and females. Nearly 90% of colon cancers begin as small polyps. These small polyps can grow in size and eventually become malignant (cancer). Colonoscopy is recommended for everyone over 45yrs old to look for polyps and remove them. Colonoscopy may be recommended sooner than age 45 based on your family history, diseases, or symptoms.
